Gil Scott-Heron

A delayed reaction here. Sorry.

I found this while sourcing material to accompany Bianca’s interview with Richard Russell of XL Recordings. It’s the title track from Gil’s final studio album (2010’s I’m New Here). I was immediately struck by its stark beauty, and of course Gil’s deeply resonant, soulful, expressive voice. I love the unobtrusive backing and the gentle pace. I love the attention to storytelling detail. I just really like the warm feeling it gives me inside.

There’s a tribute from Wallace Wylie here, if you want to read more.
