This is underpinned with what sounds like a slap bass. Normally I don’t like it when musicians slap their bass – what the fuck harm did it ever do to you, dog? – but oddly I don’t mind it so much when the bass is a stand-up. This track is minimal and righteous and old school like the Beasties: a good time MC tune. The samples are sparse, the beats are fluid. Feels like a highly polished demo made while someone was checking out their mum’s record collection. What the fuck is wrong with that?
Slick, though.Slick, laconic and with a bit of that early Dream Warriors vibe.
My name is Everett True. I am a music critic. This is what I do. I criticise music.
The clue is in my job description – music critic. I do not consider myself a journalist, as I do not research or report hard news. I do not consider myself a commentator as I believe that everyone should be a participant. I criticise people and in return I am not surprised if other people criticise me. It is part of the whole deal of being in the public arena.
I am Everett True. Believe in me and I have power like a God. Quit believing in me and I no longer exist.
