Song of the day – 80: Flowers
From the first Earcom compilation (parent company, Fast Forward, you might know better for Gang Of Four, Mekons et al, with its motto of “difficult fun” and “mutant pop”). I don’t mind admitting I’d completely forgotten all about it – despite its leading line of “met a boy called Jerry/Whose dancing was a treat” – until re-encountering it on the totally incredible ‘reference of female-fronted punk rock’ 12-CD compilation (still free to download). God damn this song is fine: taut, bruised, menacing. From Edinburgh, Scotland apparently. Well, of course they are!
Here. Listen to it here.
Flowers – After Dark
by Everett True
My name is Everett True. I am a music critic. This is what I do. I criticise music.
The clue is in my job description – music critic. I do not consider myself a journalist, as I do not research or report hard news. I do not consider myself a commentator as I believe that everyone should be a participant. I criticise people and in return I am not surprised if other people criticise me. It is part of the whole deal of being in the public arena.
I am Everett True. Believe in me and I have power like a God. Quit believing in me and I no longer exist.
