Pouting white bread pop star Charli XCX has made less than an impression on me so far, but if you think I can resist this – a Josie And The Pussycats-style punk cover of one of 2014’s finest pop songs – then you are crazy. There’s such energy, such an infectious delight. The handclaps! The spontaniety! The breathlessness! The squeals! The terrible tinny guitar solo. The way the song keeps threatening to get away from them but never quite does. The whoa’s!

C’mon, y’awl. If The Julie Ruin or Kate Nash had covered this (and I can well imagine one of them might), you’d be falling over yourselves to acclaim its subversive delight! I mean, sure – duh. Charli XCX ain’t no Kathleen Hanna, and that matters, but…THIS IS SO FUN!

Thanks to Jake at The Vine for the tip-off.
