Song of the day – 228: La Sera

There’s absolutely nothing not to love about this single. A song that distills all the purest Shop Assistants elements of The Vivian Girls, with a teeth-clenching breathy high vocal, and drums that linger for seconds at a time. Harmonies that wrap themselves around your body like fondest memories. (You can’t put your arms around a memory, and Katy Goodman doesn’t even try: preferring to stab the ghost stone-cold dead.) Music that has a deftness, a lightness-of-touch that only serves to bring out the entire scintillating, neck-warming delight of a melody. And a video that… well, just watch it for yourself. Damn. Damn. Damn. Phantasmal, like Daniel Johnston attending church every week of his teenage life. Damn.
